Hello friends! Today we are going to talk about a festival that makes us feel hope and happiness in life - Vijayadashami!
Today we will know about everything related to Vijayadashami. Like why Vijayadashami is celebrated, what is the purpose behind celebrating it, customs, personal thoughts and rituals, and along with this we will also share our personal anecdote.
Why is Vijayadashami celebrated?
This festival is connected to the story of Ramayana in which Lord Rama defeated Ravana so this story has elements of little depth.
The Story of Lord Rama and Ravana According to Ramayana, Ravana, who was a very powerful and intelligent demon, kidnapped Sita Mata (Lord Rama's wife). Lord Rama was heartbroken by the theft of Sita and he, along with his brother Lakshmana, resolved to bring Sita back.
Rama prepared a huge army which included Hanuman and the monkey army. They along with their friends sailed towards Lanka where Ravana had captured Sita.
When they faced Ravana, they fought with their bravery and Dharma Bal. This war lasted for 10 days when after facing many difficult rays, Lord Rama defeated Ravana with his strength and charity.
Cultural Traditions
Vijayadashami is celebrated through various cultural practices that vary from region to region. Here are some of the major practices:
Ramlila: Ramlila is organized on this day, where people watch scenes from Ramayana. This play shows how Rama defeated Ravana.
Dussehra Fair: Fairs are held at many places on the day of Dussehra, where people celebrate. Many games, food, drinks and entertainment are organized in this fair, which brings people together.
Durga Puja: In many places, Maa Durga is also worshiped on this day. On this day, Maa Durga killed Mahishasura. Her idols are installed at the conclusion of Durga Puja, which is an emotional moment.
Social significance
This festival is not just a religious ritual; it has social implications as well. It emphasises the importance of unity of society, and collective strength. During this time, communities come together to celebrate, strengthen social bonds and promote harmony. Vijayadashami also encourages introspection and self-improvement. People reflect on their actions of the past year and aspire to overcome personal evils and challenges. This festival also reminds us to follow righteousness in daily life.
My personal experience
My experience of Vijayadashami has always been very special. I look forward to this day every year as it brings happiness, colourful sights and a chance to meet family.
As a child, I loved watching Ravan Dahan. The whole ground would erupt in applause when that huge effigy was burnt. Celebrating and participating in that day was a different kind of fun.
At home too, mother would do puja and make lots of sweets. We all would eat them together and wish each other. The atmosphere of this day is unique, with a feeling of joy and celebration.
Vijayadashami is not just a festival but also a symbol of dedication and new beginnings. I love to enjoy this day every time!
Final Thoughts
Vijayadashami is not just a festival but a way of life. The basic message of this day is, "If you are with truth and Dharma, you will always win." So, on this auspicious occasion, we should remember that Vijayadashami is an inspiration that leads us to happiness.
Wishing everyone a very happy festival! Let us celebrate this day with happiness and walk on the path of happiness.
